Teen sensation Victoria Mboko of Canada will try to punch her ticket to the semifinal round of the 2025 Parma Ladies Open against Xinyu Wang of China on Thursday.
Mboko continued to turn heads with her play on clay as WTA’s rising star secured her slot in the quarterfinal in Palermo with a 6-7(3) 6-3 6-2 win over Jil Teichmann of Switzerland. Mboko, who gave world’s No.3 Coco Gauff trouble in their second-round clash in Rome, has survived two three-set wins over Teichmann and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 5-7 6-4 6-3 to stay in contention of this WTA 125 event.
Wang ousted compatriot Zhang Shuai 6-4 6-3 and Varvara Lepchenko 3-6 6-3 6-4 to reach the round-of-8 in Palermo. In her comeback win over Lepchenko, Zhang bagged 36 first-serve points and converted 3 of 11 breakpoint opportunities.
