While ATP players are in Toronto this week, for WTA competitors, it's Montreal, where on Thursday, there's a hugely intriguing match between young up-and-comer Victoria Mboko, who is in playing in her home country of Canada. She's up against Maria Bouzkova, who has been in hot form of late, recently winning an event in her home country of Czech Republic.
On the face of it, looking at the rankings, this is a tough ask for the 18-year-old, but she has so far looked in explosive form at this tournament, brushing aside both Kimberly Birrell and Sofia Kenin, beating both in straight sets.
Clearly a player who is on the up, Mboko won an ITF event on this surface back in March, while she showed her quality with a good run at the French Open in May, before showing flashes on excellence at Wimbledon. She's since beaten three higher-ranked player on a hard surface and is clearly one to watch.

Are we witnessing the sudden rise of another future star? Well, it's early days, but the recent efforts of 18-year-old Victoria Mboko have been impressive. The Canadian player has made a hugely promising start to this tournament, beating higher-ranked players, and the way in which she sent Sofia Kenin packing last time out tells me that she can cause some serious problems for Maria Bouzkova.
Sure, I know Bouzkova is in great form, while she won that low-key event in her native Czech Republic recently, but she's going to be up against it here, so much so that I think she should be more of an outsider than she currently is in the betting.
