Former world’s No.1 Iga Swiatek of Poland opens her grass-court campaign against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in an intriguing second-round matchup at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open.
Swiatek is set to play her first grass-court match of the year after spending several weeks off the circuit, probably to collect her composure following a disappointing title defense at 2025 Roland Garros. Swiatek, who lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semis of the French Open, carries an 18-8 record on grass. Despite being a five-time Grand Slam winner, Swiatek has yet to make a deep run at the Wimbledon Open, where her best performance was a quarterfinal finish in 2023.
Azarenka reached the second round of the Bad Homburg Open by capturing her third win in the tournament against Laura Siegemund of Germany 6-2 6-2. Azarenka sustained the fine form she showcased from the qualifiers, as she punished Siegemund with 28 first-serve points and 4 breakpoint conversions.
