The Utah Mammoth host the first postseason game in franchise history on Friday night, facing the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs first round at the Delta Center.
The teams split their first two meetings in Vegas, giving the Mammoth fans hope that the higher-seeded Golden Knights aren't unbeatable in this series. If it weren't for a third-period comeback by the hosts in Game 1, Utah could even be holding a 2-0 lead.
Andre Tourigny's team has not been phased by the occasion and is looking like a real darkhorse for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Mammoth has two strong scoring lines and looks good at the back. Mikhail Sergachev, Nate Schmidt, and Ian Cole are all Stanley Cup champions. They know what it takes to win at this stage.
Between the sticks, Utah probably has the most underrated goaltender in the league with Karel Vejmelka. Only perennial Vezina Trophy candidate Andrei Vasilevskiy won more regular-season games this season, and Vejmelka had a solid 2.75 goals-against average. He has improved it to 2.54 during the postseason, while also lifting his save percentage to .902.

Not many gave the Mammoth a chance to progress from this series, but they played very well in the first two games and should do even better at home. The team looks confident and is bound to get an extra lift from its fans on Friday night.
While the Golden Knights finished the regular season strong under new head coach John Tortorella, their efforts during five-on-five plays have yielded only three goals in two games this postseason. It's tough to win tight playoff games without a consistent offense.
