The 47-24-4 Edmonton Oilers will welcome the 42-27-8 Vegas Golden Knights to Alberta on Wednesday. They have a playoff spot clinched already but they will be looking for more. The gap to the Vancouver Canucks is five points and they have played two games less. Just the Colorado Avalanche have more wins on home ice this season so this four-game home stand can make or break the season. The Arizona Coyotes and San Jose Sharks will also visit but most importantly, the Canucks have to go to Edmonton on April 13 for a game that could decide the Pacific Division winner. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl lead the way with McDavid one assist away from 100 on the season.
Vegas are making hard work of getting back to the playoffs and looking to retain their Stanley Cup champion status. They took an early 2-0 lead over the Canucks on Monday before succumbing 3-4 which made it back-to-back losses for them after a 4-7 decision in Arizona against the Coyotes. It is their inconsistency that has been holding them back. Their road trip before this saw them concede just once in three of the four games but five in the other before the 11 in the first two games of this trip. They are going to need to be at their best both on the blue line and between the pipes if they are to take two points away from Edmonton, a team who are capable of lighting up the scoreboard when they are on their game.
