The Texas Tech Red Raiders (16-16, 4-14) will face off in the second round of the Big 12 Women's Tournament against the Utah Utes (22-7, 13-5). Tipoff for this Big 12 battle is scheduled for 9 pm ET with coverage via ESPN+.
Texas Tech got the year off to a promising start, going 11-2 during the non-conference part of their schedule. But while they won their conference opener vs. Houston, 74-59, the competition got a whole lot tougher from there. They dropped their next five before picking up wins against BYU and Houston. But then they proceeded to lose their next nine, stopping the bleeding with a win in their last conference game of the season (83-79 OT vs. Colorado). That stretch included a 70-64 loss to Utah. They earned a rematch vs. the Utes in the second round by taking down Kansas in the first round, 57-53.
As for Utah, the season started much like Texas Tech, with a solid non-conference mark, 9-2. The start of conference play was a little rocky, as they won four of their first seven. But then they won nine of their last 11 games (including a seven-game winning streak) and earned a first-round bye.

Utah has not played good basketball for a couple of weeks, going 2-2 down the stretch with losses to two ranked teams. They needed overtime to beat a poor BYU team by three, 76-73. Texas Tech is coming off two decent performances and they did give Utah a run for their money in their regular season meeting. I understand why the Utes are such heavy favorites art -13.5, but I don't see them winning by that number without getting a lot of help from the Red Raiders.
