The New Jersey Devils will kick off their 2026 schedule with a home game against the Utah Mammoth on Saturday at Prudential Center.
The Devils had a disappointing finish to 2025, as they were slumping for most of December. However, the team closed out the year on a positive note, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Wednesday. Sheldon Keefe's side looked destined for a fifth consecutive defeat before erupting for three third-period goals.
Offensive production has been a concern for the Devils all season, with Keefe's men averaging the fifth-fewest goals in the NHL (2.65). Utah is scoring over three goals (3.07) per game, meaning New Jersey's attacking players must show up on Saturday for the team to have a chance of victory.
Utah will be looking for revenge this weekend after losing 2-1 to the Devils on home ice a couple of weeks ago. Daniil But gave the team a lead through a first-period power-play goal, but the Mammoth couldn't build on the good start.
Since facing New Jersey, Andre Tourigny's team has posted a 2-2-0 record. On Thursday, Utah bounced back from two successive defeats, beating the New York Islanders 7-2. Dylan Guenther had a fabulous outing with his first career hat trick and one assist.

While the team managed only five wins in December, Jack Hughes missed most of the month. He returned to action before the holiday break, adding a lot of quality to the team.
