Since Pochettino took over as manager of the US national team, the fruits of his labor are yet to be seen. The Argentine coach is on the verge of the country's most important World Cup; the USA will be co-hosts and have only two preparatory matches left, against Senegal and Germany, before their debut in the tournament. Pochettino has called on his players to approach these two friendlies as if they were the World Cup itself.

The friendly will be in Charlotte, and the Senegalese aren't coming for a stroll, as players like Pape Gueye have stated unequivocally that their goal is to win the World Cup. However, the United States has a very good record against African opponents in its history, having beaten them 12 times in the past. This US team is arguably the most talented and experienced generation of footballers in the country. A single glance reveals the quality of its players: Pulisic, McKennie, Dest, and Tyler Adams.
