Off the back of what was a rather humiliating defeat, the US will get back down to business on Tuesday. For the second time in less than a week, they'll take to the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where they were miles off the required level against Belgium at the weekend, losing by five goals to two. Mauricio Pochettino's men, who've certainly had their bubble burst, are now up against a Portuguese side that is also capable of doing severe damage. 

The visitors will go to Atlanta, Georgia having tied 0-0 with Mexico at the weekend, but don't be too fooled by that. This is by no means an easier task for the hosts. Roberto Martinez's men performed better than the result suggested against Mexico, while their recent away-day efforts tell us that they could really hurt the Stars and Stripes, who will need to tighten up massively to compete here.

Our USA vs Portugal Prediction

I was not surprised to see that the Stars and Stripes were exposed defensively against a strong Belgium team at the weekend, and the pain may not stop there. Let's be honest, the defensive task on Tuesday isn't going to be much easier. The Portuguese did fail to score against the Mexicans last time out, but they still created lots, performing as if they'd make light work of scoring goals against a US defense that was all over the place just a few days ago. 

Given the offensive talent in the Portugal set-up, it really is difficult to see the hosts keeping in tight at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, so much so that betting on the visitors to score at least two rates as a smart play, especially at odds of -125, which all things considered, look a little too lenient.
