The first of two friendlies scheduled for June between the U.S. and Ireland women’s national teams is about to kick off, with both sides playing for pride in a summer without major tournaments on the calendar.
On one hand, the U.S., long considered one of the top teams in the world, has already played four friendlies in 2025, racking up three wins. Those victories include matchups against powerhouses like Brazil and more modest opponents like Jamaica. Their only loss came in the second of two games against Brazil: after winning the first 2-0, the Americans were handed a 2-1 defeat in the rematch, showing that while the Stars and Stripes remain strong, they’re not unbeatable.
As for the visitors, Ireland currently sits 25th in the FIFA rankings but comes into this match in solid form. Like the U.S., they’ve only played friendlies in 2025, winning five of six matches. Still, history is not on their side — Ireland has never beaten, drawn, or even scored a goal against the United States.
