The main event for this weekend’s UFC Fight Night will feature two of the best Bantamweights in the world. Umar Nurmagomedov, the #2-ranked Bantamweight, will face #6-ranked Song Yadong. They both are itching to get their shot at current champion Petr Yan.
Umar had been on a tear like many fighters from his camp. He was 18-0 and was allowed to fight for the title against then champion Merab Dvalishvili. Unfortunately, Umar broke his hand in the 1st round of that fight and continued fighting the rest of the way in handicapped fashion. Merab kept the pressure on him and was able to grind his way to a unanimous decision win. Since that loss, Umar has been able to get back on track and pick up back-to-back victories over Mario Bautista and, most recently, Deiveson Figueiredo. Like the majority of his victories, both came by decision.
For Yadong, the road has been bumpy as of late. He took a decision loss against now-champion Yan back in March of 2024. He bounced back with a decision victory over Henry Cejudo, but then lost to O’Malley in his next bout. His last fight came against a common opponent in Figueiredo. He used a guillotine choke to pick up just his 4th victory by submission in the 2nd round of that fight.

This fight will feature contrasting styles. Yadong likes to stand and strike, as he has a striker background. Umar, on the other hand, is happy to grind things out and get fights turned into grappling contests. Umar has only 2 victories by KO/TKO, and Yadong has yet to be submitted in his career. Umar, being the heavy favorite, is not worth the play on the money line. Instead, we like the value we are getting on him to win via decision.
