The UCLA Bruins (24-11) are scheduled to take on the Connecticut Huskies (30-5) at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA, today at 8:45 p.m. EST. Fans can catch the game on TNT.
The Huskies looked like they were in danger of becoming the latest top ten team to go down as a massive disappointment with a first-round exit in the Tournament. Furman gave them a much tougher challenge than expected. Connecticut pulled ahead at the half, 40-36, but the Paladins made them work for it. But in the second half, it wasn’t nearly as competitive as UConn went on to win 82-71. As for the Bruins, UCLA won four of five down the stretch in the regular season and made it to the semifinal of the Big Ten Tournament, where they lost to Purdue. They were 5.5-point favorites in the first round against UCF. UCLA led at the half, 35-27, and held on to win 75-71.
Eric Daily Jr. led the Bruins in scoring against UCF with 20 points, followed by Xavier Booker with 15 points. Taris Reed Jr. led the way for the Huskies against Furman with 31 points and 27 rebounds.

UConn may be without the services of Silas Demary Jr. in this game. But if it does, the Huskies have the talent to step up and fill the void. They’ve had issues with efficiency and turnovers of late, but if they can get on track and clean things up, they can play with anyone. However, while I have reservations concerning the Huskies, UCLA’s second-half effort against UCF has me more concerned about them.
This is a surprisingly small spread for UConn, which should easily cover it.
