Torino had lost all three of their preseason matches, foreshadowing what was to come: a poor start to the Italian season. First, with Vlasic's goal, they struggled in the Coppa Italia to beat lowly Serie B side Modena. Then, at the start of Serie A, they faced Inter in Milan, where Torino had arguably the worst league debut in their history. Torino lost 5-0 on Matchday 1, with three goals entirely attributable to defensive errors.
In the second matchday of the Italian championship, Torino will face Fiorentina. On Matchday 1, Fiorentina drew with Cagliari, but achieved a more important goal by securing their place in the Conference League, crushing a Ukrainian team 5-2 on aggregate.
The recent record of the Fiorentina-Torino clashes revealed a series of matches in which defense prevailed and they had few, if any, chances. In five matches between these clubs since 2023, none have seen more than 2.5 goals scored; there was one 0-0, two 1-0 draws, and two 1-1 draws.
