Brazilian teen sensation Joao Fonseca will lock horns with Tristan Schoolkate to open his campaign at the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.
Fonseca will be playing his first match since reaching the third round of the 2025 Wimbledon Open. The 19-year-old Brazilian wunderkind is putting together a promising rookie year on the tour, highlighted by a 28-12 overall record in 2025 and an ATP Tour-level title in Argentina earlier this year. Fonseca will also take an impressive 17-3 hard court record in 2025 into the North American hard-court season, which will culminate at the 2025 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Schoolkate secured his spot in the main draw of the National Bank Open with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Govind Nanda of the United States. The Australian seized control right from the get-go, winning 96 percent of his first serves while breaking Nanda four times. Schoolkate had also competed at Los Cabos a week earlier, reaching the quarterfinal of the ATP 250 event.
