The Toronto Blue Jays will try to get back at the Pittsburgh Pirates after dropping the series opener, 2-5, on Monday.
Listed at -150 home favorites at DraftKings, the Blue Jays are sending in future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer to take on the Pirates' projected starter, Mitch Keller.
The Pirates drew first blood in the series as CY Young contender Paul Skenes logged six innings, surrendering two runs while striking out eight batters. Pittsburgh also pounced on several throwing errors committed by the Jays, with Henry Davis scoring a go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Brendon Little in the 7th inning and Jared Triolo doubling their lead to 4-2 on a throwing error by catcher Tyler Heineman in the 8th inning. Davis struck again in the 8th, driving Alexander Canario to home plate with a sacrifice fly.
Monday’s result gave the Pirates their second win in three meetings against the No.1 team in the AL East. As for the Blue Jays, they absorbed their second consecutive loss after also falling to the Texas Rangers, 4-10, in the series finale. Toronto still has a five-game lead on the 67-57 New York Yankees and the 68-58 Boston Red Sox, who are still very much in the mix for the AL East Division title.
