After failing to sweep the Colorado Rockies, the Atlanta Braves will next host the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game weekend series starting on Friday at Truist Park. The Braves squandered a golden opportunity to move up in the wild standings after dropping a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. The loss further exposed Atlanta’s hardships at the plate over the past 5 games, during which they have hit just .211 with 3.4 runs per game. The Blue Jays found themselves on a three-game slide following close losses to Minnesota and Philadelphia early this week. At 67-74, Toronto is nowhere close to competing for a wild card playoff spot. What they can realistically achieve is avoiding the tag as the worst team in the AL West by overtaking the Tampa Bay Rays (69-71) at the end of the season.
