The third round of the men’s singles tournament at the 2025 Canadian Open will feature an all-Argentine slugfest between No.14 seed Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
Cerundolo edged Jaume Munar Clar 7-6(4) 4-6 6-4 to open his North American hard-court campaign with a win. The Argentine blew a golden opportunity to close it out in two sets after letting Clar recover and force the match to a decider. Fortunately for Cerundolo, he withstood the strong fightback from the Spaniard and secured his entry into the round of 32 of this ATP 1000 tournament.
Etcheverry reached the third round with a 6-4 7-6(4) upset over world’s No.31 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands. Roughly 48 hours after his grueling three-set win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France, Etcheverry delivered a crisper performance against the Dutchman, scoring 40 points off the first serves and securing three breakpoints to pull off a surprising straight-set win over a seeded player.
