LSU earned its spot in the semifinals by taking down Florida in the quarterfinals round 101-87 in a game they controlled from beginning to end. They took a 53-34 lead into the break and never looked back. Ra Shaya Kyle turned in a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds), and six LSU players recorded double-digit points on the night. Texas had a more challenging game in the quarterfinals vs. Ole Miss. The Longhorns took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter and held on to win by seven. Ole Miss got within a basket but was not able to pull ahead.
LSU and Texas played a couple of weeks ago (Feb. 16) in a competitive battle won by Texas 65-58. The Tigers held the Longhorns to just 19 points in the first half and led 28-19 at the break. But Texas came alive in the second half, outscoring LSU 46-30 and winning by seven.
