The matchup between Tecia Pennington (15-7-0) and Denis Gomes (11-3-0) could end up being a solid banger for these two Strawweights. Both are ranked inside the Top 15 with Pennington being just two spots ahead of Gomes at 13th overall. Pennington is the more seasoned fighter with 8 more fights but Gomes is the younger fighter and at 25, she is 11 years younger than Pennington. Pennington will be looking for her 3rd straight win after defeating both Carla Esparza and Luana Pinheiro by unanimous decisions in her last two fights. It had been a rocky road for Pennington prior to those two wins. She had lost 6 of her previous 9 fights from 2018 through late 2024. There is a part of me that would want to take Gomes by KO/TKO here but Pennington has yet to be finished in her career. We expect Gomes to dictate the pace of this fight and use her 3.5-inch advantage to pepper Pennington on the feet. It is not likely that Pennington will try to shoot at all and get this to the ground with her sub 20% takedown accuracy. Pennington’s toughness is likely to keep her from getting finished but we feel safest taking Gomes on the money line.
