Taylor Fritz of the United States seeks his fourth Eastbourne Open men’s singles title against fellow American Jenson Brooksby on Saturday.
Fritz rolled into her fourth Eastbourne Open final after surviving a third three-set match in span of 48 hours. Fritz, who outlasted Joao Fonseca 6-3 6-7(5) 7-5 and Marcos Giron 7-5 4-6 7-5, dug deep from his bag of tricks to outlast the fiery Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3 3-6 6-1. Powered by 18 aces and 42 first-serve points, Fritz was able to collect his composure after a lackluster second set and outgun the Spaniard in the deciding set. The win gives Fritz a chance to win a second grass-court title as he also ruled the Boss Stuttgart Open two weeks ago.
Brooksby came out of nowhere to reach his second ATP Main Tour final since returning from a two-year layoff this year. The American is a finalist at Eastbourne for the first time after completing a comeback win over Ugo Humbert 6-7(7) 6-4 6-4. A lucky loser entry in this tournament, Brooksby made the most of his second chance by racking up four consecutive wins. He defeated Francisco Comesana 7-6(6) 6-4, Nuno Borges 6-4 6-4, and Daniel Evans 6-2 6-3 in straight sets before gutting out a three-set victory over Humbert.
