Taylor Fritz of the United States goes for a place in the semifinal of the 2025 Geneva Open, taking on the No.6 seed, Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, on Thursday.
Fritz, the top seed in the small tournament before the French Open, fended off a strong challenge from Quentin Halys of France 6-4 7-6(5) in the second round. The American fired 8 aces and landed 64 percent of his first serves - winning 37 points off of those serves - to stay in control despite facing constant pressure from Halys.
Hurkacz made it to his second consecutive clay-court quarterfinals after topping Arthur Rinderknech 6-4 6-1 in the second round. Hurkacz, who fell to Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Rome Masters, will again vie for a semifinal seat as he takes on another top-flight American netter in Fritz.

Why we should on a Hubert Hurkacz win: I know Fritz has a 4-1 head-to-head series lead on Hurkacz, but the American hasn’t been playing his best tennis for quite some time now.
