Fresh off a runner-up finish in Tokyo, Taylor Fritz of the United States open his Shanghai Masters campaign against Fabian Marozsan of Hungary on Friday.

Fritz walked into his championship clash with Carlos Alcaraz more confident that he has been before following a breakthrough win over the Spaniard at the Laver Cup. Unfortunately, Alcaraz still proved too strong when the stakes are higher, beating Fritz in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to win the title. The result has stained Fritz’s immaculate record in championship matches this year.
Marozsan is coming off a hard-fought match against three-time Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka. Ranked No.57 in the world, Marozsan conceded only two breakpoints after winning 39 points behind the first serves and adding 14 more off the second ball. The Hungarian also broke the Swiss’ serves four times.

Taylor Fritz will cruise to a comfortable win over Fabian Marozsan in their second-round on Friday.
With Carlos Alcaraz skipping the Shanghai Masters, Fritz has established himself as a potential final contender in this ATP 1000 event. Fritz had racked up six consecutive wins before losing to Alcaraz in the final at Tokyo. In that six-game stretch, Fritz toppled high-caliber opponents such as Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Gabriel Diallo, Nuno Borges, Sebastian Korda and Jenson Brooksby.
Meanwhile, Marozsan has also won three of his last four matches, including the three-set win over Wawrinka. Marozsan is 1-4 against the ATP top-10 and only 6-9 in second-round matches in 2025. He will need to produce a near perfect game and some luck to upset one of the hottest players on the tour right now.
