One of Thursday’s Round-of-32 fixtures sees Switzerland take on Algeria in Vancouver, where both teams will be hoping to extend their stay at the 2026 World Cup.
Thanks to a win over co-hosts Canada during the final round of group games, the Swiss entered the knockouts at Group B winners, and as a reward for those efforts, they’ve got what is supposed to be one of the easier assignments, though the Algerians showed that they’re not an easy team to beat by ending the groups with a 3-3 tie against Austria, so don’t go writing off the North Africans too quickly.
Based on the early lines, a bet on the Swiss to score multiple goals looks like the best move. At the very least, given what we’ve seen from the pair at the tournament so far, odds of +115 look too big to ignore.

Switzerland - Algeria: Form Analysis
When they tied 1-1 with Qatar during the first round of group games, the Swiss appeared to be struggling, but in reality, that was an unjust result, a result that wasn’t worth overreacting to. Murat Yakin’s men clearly dominated lesser opponents, and sure, they were wasteful, but they’ve since stepped on the gas, scoring six goals in two games, winning two on the spin, sending themselves into the knockouts feeling confident.

For the Algerians, it was a mixed bag during the groups. They were always going to struggle against the Argentines in that first game, and struggle they did, coming off second best. They had to fight back to beat lowly Jordan, who took an early lead during the second round of group games, but fight back they did, eventually winning by two goals to one, while they showed plenty of offensive quality against the Austrians, though for the third game on the bounce, they struggled to keep it tight at the back, which doesn’t bode well ahead of a game against the Swiss.

Switzerland & Algeria Squad Analysis
Since coming on as substitutes against Bosnia during the second round of group games, Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi have both been key players for the Swiss, registering seven goals and assists between them in two appearances. Both are set to feature as key players for Murat Yakin in Vancouver. Breel Embolo is expected to continue leading the attack.

There was lots to like about the way the Algerians attacked against the Austrians, with veteran creator Riyad Mahrez showing the form of old, scoring two fine goals. If the 35-year-old former EPL winner can be at his best again, then the Fennec Foxes can do some more damage here. Rayan Ait-Nouri may return to the starting XI, while Houssem Aouar is set for another key role in midfield.

Our Switzerland vs Algeria Prediction
At times, the Swiss have underwhelmed a little at this tournament, but they’ve created lots of chances, there can be no denying that, while their total of seven goals scored during the group stages is more than respectable. They also created a group-stage total of 6.38, which suggests that this is a team that can do plenty of damage.
If we consider how easy the Algerians have been breached at times, keeping no clean sheets and conceding a total of seven goals, then the odds available for the Swiss to score at least two goals really do start to look generous. A more accurate price for this bet, based on all available evidence, would be -115, so +115 is definitely worth taking advantage of.
Our Switzerland vs Algeria Pick: Switzerland to Score Over 1.5 Goals.
