This Saturday, one of the three o’clock matches takes place at The Stadium of Light with Sunderland hosting Manchester United. The early odds are underestimating the possibility of a lower-scoring meeting.
The Black Cats seem to be lacking motivation, claiming just one point in their last three matches - and this was against a relegated side. It’s possible that they can no longer see a top finish being likely. Luckily, Man United don’t have loads to play for either, already qualified for the UCL, though they are going to love putting the pressure on rivals Man City.
Sunderland aren’t very forceful on the attack, don’t typically create lots of shots, and haven’t been showing much offensive quality on home soil lately. They’ve failed to score more than one goal in their last five, just two in total.
The hosts do aim to be more defensive on home soil, only allowing an average of 1.12 goals per home game. Over half of Sunderland’s home goals consist of two or less goals, so they’ll likely be happy to keep a vehement United side at bay.

Our Sunderland vs Manchester United Prediction
The Red Devils kept a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge last time on the road, another team that has lost momentum recently and who are scoring a similar number of home goals as Sunderland. The same can be said when travelling to Everton, retaining a clean sheet, and only one goal at West Ham. Their last two recent away games where they conceded multiple goals were up against stronger offensive teams.
The hosts’ last home game was a huge outlier, conceding the most goals that they’ve conceded all season at The Stadium of Light, but this was against a team that had huge relegation pressure. When Sunderland have played the top eight, most of them have been a more low-key affair - conceding one or zero goals in four out of six - and they haven’t been able to produce a great deal.
Our Sunderland vs Man United Pick: Under 2.5 Goals.
