After a lucky win last time out, Sunderland are once again able to look into the top half, which is just touching distance away from them. This Saturday, they welcome a fluctuating Brighton to the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats faced a frustrating 1-0 loss in the cup the previous weekend, against League One side Port Vale, as well as experiencing troubles in the league recently too. Four out of their last five EPL games have been without a win, though their lucky escape last time out at Elland Road may have given them the boost they needed.
Talking of rough times, Brighton aren’t in such a pleasing form as of late, winning only two out of their last nine games (two competitions). A tricky game last time out against the league leaders will have left The Seagulls looking to bounce back, but this assignment against the third-best defensive home side won’t be a piece of cake either.

Our Sunderland vs Brighton Prediction
Lately, due to the injury of Sunderland’s main striker, The Senegalese has risen to the task of creating the most shots and the most expected goals for the hosts. In their last four matches against the most relevant teams to their current opponents (excluding Liverpool and Arsenal), Diarra has produced an average xG of 0.53 per game.
Moreover, all of his three goals have come in his last eight appearances for The Black Cats, implying he’s in his best form at the moment, thanks to regular playing time for his club, following an injury and international duty.
Brighton do tend to show weakness at the back, demonstrated in Sunderland’s 14 goal attempts in the reverse fixture. In my opinion, the early market isn’t considering Diarra enough, so we can take advantage of the odds to score, or even to register a shot on target, both of which are very appealing.
Our Sunderland vs Brighton Pick: Habib Diarra to Score.
