Hannah Hidalgo and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will try to extend their winning streak to 15 in a row tonight when they host the Stanford Cardinal at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, IN. As could be expected, No. 3 Notre Dame is a heavy home favorite against the visiting Cardinal.
Notre Dame hasn’t just been winning games during their current streak. They’ve been making a statement with wins over No. 4 Texas back in early December (80-70 in OT) then-No. 2 UConn back in December. The competition has not been as intense since then, but they have recorded two additional wins over ranked teams. After missing a couple of games with an injury, Hannah Hidalgo has been playing lights out and making a solid statement for Wooden Award voters. Her last time out, vs. Louisville on Sunday, she recorded 34 points in an 89-71 victory. It was her second 30+ point game in a row and fourth on the season.
Stanford got the season off to a decent start (7-2), but it’s been all downhill since conference play got underway (3-7). To be fair, the competition has been tough. The ACC has a lot of good teams this year. Stanford’s last four losses all came against ranked opponents.

Stanford has a decent offense, but the Cardinal struggles on the defensive end of the court. They might make a game of it for a quarter or maybe even the first half. But I don’t see the Stanford defense having much of an impact on Hannah Hidalgo. Don’t be shocked if she has another 30+ point day as she leads the Fighting Irish to an easy win.
