Matchday 21 of the Bundesliga, and a fairly uneven fixture on the schedule this weekend between St. Pauli and Stuttgart. The hosts are 17th in the table with 14 points and have seen Mainz pull away from the relegation zone. After a very difficult start to 2026, St. Pauli has not won since December 13 and has only three wins so far in the league. No team in Germany has done worse. The club has just been eliminated from the DFB Pokal by Bayer Leverkusen.

In contrast, Stuttgart are enjoying a completely different dynamic, with six wins in eight games since the start of 2026 and sitting fourth in the German league. Their last defeat came on January 22 in the Europa League against AS Roma, but on the domestic scene, VfB have not lost since December 6 against Bayern Munich. Stuttgart is one of the most in-form clubs in Germany, now looking ahead rather than behind. It qualified for the Cup this week, easily eliminating H. Kiel.
