Borussia Dortmund begin their Bundesliga season with a tricky looking trip to St Pauli on Saturday evening. The 2024/2025 campaign was a slightly disappointing one for Dortmund, as a poor start to the campaign meant that they were unable to mount a serious title challenge. However, a strong finish to the season saw them squeeze into the final Champions League place on the final day. Dortmund boss Nico Kovac has added to his squad over the summer by signing Jobe Bellingham and Yan Couto from Sunderland and Manchester City.
In contrast to Dortmund, St Pauli endured a dreadful end to last season, picking up just three points from their final five fixtures. They also started the new campaign in an unconvincing fashion, needing penalties to get past lower league Norderstedt in the DFB Pokal Cup after a 0-0 draw in regulation time.
