The St. Louis Cardinals will attempt to keep their winning form going, as they target their third win in four games in Thursday’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at George Steinbrenner Field.
The Cardinals took 2 out of 3 games in their previous series with the Miami Marlins. Although they could not complete a sweep after dropping Game 3, 2-6, St. Louis still bumped up their regular-season record to 63-65, fourth in the NL Central. St. Louis will still be missing the service of second baseman Brendan Donovan, who was placed on the injured list Monday with a left groin strain.
Meanwhile, the Rays are coming into the new series with deflated confidence after absorbing back-to-back losses in their two-game series with the New York Yankees. Tampa Bay lost Game 1 in a blowout, 3-13, before losing Game 2, 4-6, in extra innings after letting Giancarlo Stanton and Austin Wells homer in the 10th inning.
