The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim resume their home stand on Monday, kicking off a new three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Angels went 1-3 in their previous four-game series with the Kansas City Royals and now find themselves at the bottom of the AL West standings with a 15-25 win-loss card. The Cardinals, meanwhile, prevented a sweep by winning the final game of their four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-3. Like the Angels, the Cardinals are dead last in their division with a 16-24 record, 8 games below the Brewers – the current NL Central division standings leader. Monday’s pitcher’s matchup will see Cardinals lefty Matthew Liberatore (3.54 ERA with 16 Ks) dueling with Angels righty Jose Soriano (1-4, 4.32 ERA with 32 Ks). Liberatore could not pitch a whole inning in his recent stint on the mound as manager Oliver Marmol pulled him out of the game after allowing two earned runs in a loss to the Brewers on May 10. Soriano pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs in a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 8.
