48 teams entered the 2026 World Cup, and now only two remain. We’ve reached the biggest game of all, the game where one nation will be crowned as the champions of the world. Will the Argentinians retain that title for another four years? Or will we see the Spanish get their hands on a prize that they last won in 2010?
Reaching this final was never in doubt for the Spanish, who have played each of their games at the 2026 World Cup with a serious element of control. Against the French in the semi finals, Luis de la Fuente’s men looked like a team set on winning a second World Cup. In contrast, the Argentinians have had some huge slices of fortune at this tournament, and at no point during the knockouts have they played with control.
Over the last few weeks, the Spanish have performed at a different level to the Argentines and that should be evident when the pair take to the field in East Rutherford. Bet on a Spanish victory.

Spain - Argentina: Form Analysis
There were some people who doubted the effectiveness of this Spanish team when minnows Cape Verde bravely clung to a 0-0 tie during the first round of group games, but there were a few shrewd onlookers who pointed out the fact that the Spanish lost their opening game at the 2010 World Cup, before going on to the win the tournament.
Following that Cape Verde disappointment, Luis de la Fuente’s men have shifted through the gears, playing like a team that can beat anyone, a team that is more than worthy of securing the biggest prize in international soccer.
Against the French last time out, we witnessed the performance of the tournament from La Roja. To play with that level of control against what most people were calling the best team in the competition was hugely impressive, and off the back of that effort, the Spanish should fancy themselves to get their hands on the trophy.
Against the French last time out, we witnessed the performance of the tournament from La Roja.
Given that they’ve fought to the death in every game, and given that they’ve got Lionel Messi, who is now the top scorer in World Cup history, pulling their strings, the Argentinians will also surely fancy themselves to retain the prize that they won in Qatar four years ago, but let’s face it, they’ll need to improve on their recent efforts if they’re to seriously challenge this Spain team.
Throughout the knockouts, the Argentines have relied not only on magical moments from Messi, but also on luck. If they’re hoping to get lucky here, they may well be disappointed.
We know that Lionel Scaloni’s team is full of fight and belief, and that’s certainly half the battle, but defensively, they continue to look all over the place and since they’re up against a team that is superior when it comes to keeping possession and frustrating, this could be where the road ends for 2022 winners.

Spain & Argentina Squad Analysis
We can expect the Spanish to take to the field in East Rutherford with the same XI that started against the French. Rodri and Fabian Ruiz controlled the game in the middle of the park, so they should both begin this match, while Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro, who scored the winning goal, were particularly effective out wide and should also retain their places.
Barcelona maestro Pedri is expected to be on the bench for the second game running, as is Nico Williams. Mikel Oyarzabal, who has scored five goals at this World Cup, will lead the forward line, supported by the deadly Lamine Yamal.
Mikel Oyarzabal, who has scored five goals at this World Cup, will lead the forward line, supported by the deadly Lamine Yamal.
Will Lionel Scaloni look to make changes ahead of this final? Almost certainly not. Although his substitutions helped turn the tide against England, the Argentinian head coach has been reluctant to switch up his starting XI in recent games, which means that both Lautaro Martinez and Nico Gonzalez are expected to continue on the bench.
With Martinez expected to start as a substitute, Julian Alvarez will be the man to partner Lionel Messi in the forward line, and it will be the Atletico Madrid man who has the job of running in behind and getting Argentina up the field.

Our Spain vs Argentina Prediction
Let’s face it, if the English had the strength to keep the ball and control the game after deservedly going a goal up in the semi final, the Argentinians wouldn’t be in this final, and if they struggle to make a fast start against La Roja, as they have in every knockout game so far, then they could be in big trouble.
What we’ve seen from both in recent games tells us that the Spanish are too good. They’re a much better team in possession, they know how to get in front, while the way in which they bossed the game, giving the French nothing more than scraps to feed on, tells us that they should be stronger favorites ahead of a game against a team that has had plenty of luck to rely on.
Our Spain vs Argentina Pick: Spain to Win.
Spain vs Argentina - Other Interesting Picks
Spain to Score Over 1.5 Goals
Cristian Romero to Receive a Card
Another betting option for those interested in player props involves betting on Argentinian defender Cristian Romero to pick up a card. The full-blooded tackler, who is Argentina’s most prolific at this tournament in terms of fouls per 90, has been fortunate at this tournament, so much so that he really should’ve been booked before he finally picked up a card in that semi final against England.
Often out of position, and nearly always too rash with his challenges, Romero is one of those defenders who simply cannot help himself flying in, and with nothing left to save himself for, after that card last time out, he’s well worth betting on to get on the wrong side of the referee.
