Alexander Zverev of Germany sets his sights on advancing into the quarterfinals of the 2025 Halle Open Championships against Lorenzo Sonego of Italy on Thursday.
After falling short in the final of the 2025 Boss Stuttgart Open, Zverev stood back up and earned his fourth grass-court win this year. Zverev decimated Marcos Giron 6-2, 6-1 behind 10 aces, 28 first-serve points, and 4 breakpoint conversions. The German, who has yet to make the quarterfinal of the Wimbledon Open, is ramping up his grass-court preparation, and there’s no better tournament to round into form than in Halle, where the world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner is competing.
Sonego snapped a four-match losing skid with a 6-3 6-2 win over Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany in the first round. Following a rough clay-court campaign, Sonego had dropped his first grass-court match this year, losing to Quentin Halys 6-7(6) 7-5 6-4 in a tough three-setter in Stuttgart a week ago. Sonego, the 2025 Australian Open quarterfinalist, is 10-14 in the season and 24-21 on grass.
