Both players come into this match having confirmed market supremacy last time out, but there's good reason to feel that the early underdog can be successful here. Sure. Liudmila Samsonova is ranked marginally above Sofia Kenin, but her performances of late have been far from perfect, while she may not be hugely prepared for this battle having beaten a lesser player last time out.
In contrast, Kenin showed that she's up for the fight in Wuhan, winning in three sets last time out, and that can hold her in good stead here.
