Soccer Predictions - UEFA Europa League Format
The Europa League is Europe's second biggest club competition, and a hugely popular event. Soccer fans can follow prestigious clubs and support their favourite teams, while punters can take advantage of the opportunity to place bets throughout the competition.
Organized by UEFA, this tournament puts on a great show every year, and it's not unusual to see a few surprises. The best clubs from Ligue 1, the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and all over Europe battle it out over several months for the coveted title.

Our 2025-2026 Europa League Winner Prediction
This year's edition of the Europa League 2025-2026 is sure to be a superb one. With elite clubs such as Aston Villa, LOSC, Lyon, FC Porto, AS Roma and Betis all taking part in the competition, it promises to be a year-long battle between these European giants.
Of course, there could always be some surprises, but even before the tournament kicks off, two teams stand out above the rest: Aston Villa and AS Roma. Since last year, there's one big advantage over other years for placing early bets on the future winner of the tournament and taking advantage of the best odds: there are no longer any Champions League 3rd-place finishers in the play-offs. In fact, the new format proposed by UEFA since last season for the three European cups no longer includes clubs from the Champions League in this tournament and similarly with Europa League and the Conference League.
At the moment, in August 2025, it's still far too early to offer you a reliable prediction on the future winner of this Europa League. We don't even know all the qualifiers yet, nor the schedules and future fixtures of each club. But, for those who don't want to wait and already bet on the future winner of the competition, we advise you to try the Villans or Romans odds.
Our Europa League 2025-2026 winner's prediction: victory for Aston Villa or AS Roma!
Our predictions for the Europa League regular season
The old group-stage format has come to an end, and since last year we've had a single group containing all the teams taking part in the Europa League. Here are the dates announced for the first part of the tournament:
- Matchday 1: September 24 and 25, 2025
- Matchday 2: October 2, 2025
- Matchday 3: October 23, 2025
- Matchday 4: November 6, 2025
- Matchday 5: November 27, 2025
- Matchday 6: December 11, 2025
- Matchday 7: January 22, 2026
- Matchday 8: January 29, 2026
Let's turn now to the composition of the single group and our predictions for the qualifiers for the Round of 16! Below, you'll find our predictions for the top 8, who qualify directly for the Round of 16, and for the next 16, who will go through to the play-offs (Round of 16).
Our prediction for the Europa League Round of 16 qualifiers (top 8 places)
The Europa League format is a very difficult one. It used to be “enough” to find the two qualifiers out of four clubs in each pool, but now we have to make a prediction on which 8 teams will finish top of this single pool.
At the start of the season, some teams seem to be standing out from the crowd. For the moment, we don't yet know all the qualifiers or the schedules, so it's difficult to make a reliable prediction on the potential qualifiers for the Round of 16, but below you'll find the clubs we think will make it through to the last 16.
Our Europa League prediction on the qualifiers: Aston Villa, AS Roma, FC Porto, Lille, Lyon, Betis, Crystal Palace and Stuttgart in the last 16!
Our prediction for the Europa League play-off qualifiers (9th to 24th place)
Imagining the play-offs is certainly even more complicated than the Round of 16. It's even impossible to predict this part of the competition at the moment, since we only know about ten qualifiers for the league phase. Check back later for our Europa League prediction for the play-off qualifiers.
2025-26 Europa League Golden Boot Picks
Betting on a competition's top scorer is becoming increasingly popular in the world of sports betting, and it's easy to see why! It's always exciting to watch the games and hope to see your striker score as many goals as possible.
Sportsbooks offer top scorer odds on many competitions, and the Europa League is no exception. Given that the level of play between the teams in this tournament is fairly even, the odds offered are generally very satisfactory, whether on the winner or the top scorer of the competition.
Here are our early-season favorites:
- Samu Omorodion (FC Porto)
- Borja Iglesias (Betis)
- Georges Mikautadze (Lyon)
- Artem Dovbyk (AS Roma)
- Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
How the Europa League Works
The UEFA Europa League is Europe's second most important soccer competition. Less prestigious than the Champions League, it has nonetheless continued to evolve over the last ten years to become a prestigious and increasingly closely-followed competition.
The latest winners of the competition include Sevilla, Chelsea, Manchester United, Villarreal, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Atlético Madrid and Atalanta Bergamo. The latest participants include Arsenal, Milan, Napoli, Roma, Lazio, Ajax Amsterdam, Benfica, FC Porto, FC Barcelona, Lyon, Nice, Athletic Bilbao and Olympique de Marseille.
As with the other two European competitions, a completely new format was introduced last year: 36 teams in a single pool, with the top 8 advancing to the Round of 16, the next 16 (9th to 24th place) qualifying for the play-offs (Round of 16), and the runners-up (25th to 36th place) being eliminated from all European competitions.
There are no more Champions League or Conference League repechage teams, and the last 12 will be eliminated for good. For qualified clubs, after the play-offs to determine the other 8 qualified teams, there will be a knockout phase, with home-and-away matches, the 8th, quarter-finals and semi-finals, culminating in the final to crown the European champion. All in all, it's a classic from the old format.
- First qualifying round (July 10 and 17)
- Second qualifying round (July 24 and 31)
- Third qualifying round (August 7 and 14)
- Qualifying play-offs (August 21 and 28)
- Draw for matches on August 29
- League phase with 8 matches for the36 clubs in total (from September 24, 2025 to January 29, 2026)
- The first 8 qualify for the last 8
- The next 16 qualify for the play-offs (last 16)
- The last 12 are eliminated from all European competitions (no repechage into the Conference League)
- Play-off draw on January 30
- Play-offs (home and away) on return on February 19 and 26, 2026)
- Final phase draw on February 27
- Round-trip knockout matches from the play-offs (March 12 to May 7)
- Final in dry match in Istanbul (May 20, 2026)
Last year, Tottenham won the Europa League. A trophy that saved the season for a club that had failed to live up to expectations, and enabled it to reach the Champions League this season. Who will succeed the teammates of Heung-min Son and Richarlison? Make your predictions!
How to Make Accurate Predictions When Betting on Europa League Matches?
Let’s get into the most important part: the key factors to consider before placing a bet on a Europa League match. These are the best free expert betting tips to help increase your chances of winning when betting on Europa League games.
- Track the performance of key players throughout the tournament
- Understand each club’s true intentions and priorities in the competition
- Compare betting odds across sportsbooks to get the best value
- Consider the importance of the match for each team
- Use stats and data to make informed predictions
By following these Europa League betting tips, you’ll maximize your chances of success. Let's have a closer look at each one of these points so that you can properly apply them to your betting strategy.
Track the Performance of Key Europa League Players
First and foremost, you need to assess the form of key players. A team often relies heavily on its top performers in European competitions. For example, if a player of Salah or Mac Allister’s caliber is out of form, it won’t benefit Liverpool. In such cases, if the team is facing a strong opponent, think twice before betting on them.
Likewise, check if any player is suspended, injured, or being rested before placing your bet. This knowledge can significantly impact your Europa League predictions and increase your chances of making informed bets.
Understand Each Club's Europa League Intentions
Not all clubs prioritize the Europa League as their main objective. Success in their domestic league is often more important. This means that many teams are unlikely to field their strongest lineups, especially during the group stage. However, once the competition reaches the knockout rounds, stronger lineups are more common.
Pay close attention to whether a club is planning major squad rotations for its next Europa League match. Clubs with deep rosters can afford to rotate and still achieve good results. However, teams with less squad depth may struggle if they make too many changes. Unlike bigger clubs, smaller teams tend to field their strongest lineups in an effort to establish themselves on the European stage.
Compare Odds!
This next tip is a big one: always compare the odds offered by different sportsbooks for Europa League betting. Each book provides different odds for soccer predictions and other sports, so make sure you’re getting the best value for your Europa League bets.
To do this, you’ll need accounts with multiple sportsbooks so you can place your bet where the potential payout is highest. For example, if Liverpool is playing against Atalanta, FanDuel might offer odds of -150 for a Liverpool win, while DraftKings offers -155 That slight difference means you can make a bigger profit by placing your bet with FanDuel. Stay alert, your winnings can add up significantly over time!
Consider What's at Stake for Each Europa League Match
Teams will rightfully balance how much effort they're willing to give each Europa League match according to how well they're doing in their respective league, especially in the later stages.
The stakes of the match you want to bet on will also affect your Europa League predictions. For example, if a team has already qualified for the Round of 16 during the group stage, you should avoid betting on them against a team that still has a chance to qualify.
On the other hand, don’t forget that a match between two already-qualified clubs can be very important, especially if finishing first guarantees an automatic spot in the Round of 16, while the second-place team has to play a playoff round against the third-place team from a Champions League group.
Use Stats for Your Europa League Predictions
Relying on real statistical data is paramount to making more accurate predictions in any league, the Europa League is no exception. Knowing which teams are in form and which aren’t is vital information. However, it’s best to focus on Europa League form if a team is making significant changes compared to what they field in other competitions.
Thankfully, SportyTrader provides users with a wealth of data on the Europa League and many other competitions, which can help you improve your results in online sports betting. It’s up to you to know how to use it!
Avoid These Europa League Betting Mistakes
As a complement to the free advice given in the previous section, here’s what you should not do when making your predictions for the Europa League, or you’ll end up losing money foolishly. Here are some things to avoid:
- Betting on the Europa League on a whim, without research.
- Betting on your favorite team or player without objectivity.
- Risking too much on the Europa League.
- Betting based on emotions.
- Betting without considering the value of the Europa League odds.
- Betting on a match with nothing at stake in the single Europa League pool.
- Not varying your predictions and only betting on one type of bet.
- Placing combinations that include too many Europa League matches.
Do your best to avoid these habits when betting on the Europa League 2025-2026, as you’d be exposing yourself to certain risks!
If it helps, you can make a note of these mistakes as a reminder or even refer to this page regularly, especially since new information is added as the year progresses. If you avoid these mistakes, you’ll increase your chances of success in football betting, and particularly in the Europa League.
Europa League: Key Stats to Consider Before Betting

- +1.5 Goals: 78%
- -1.5 Goals: 22%
- +2.5 Goals: 55%
- -2.5 Goals: 45%
- +3.5 Goals: 31%
- -3.5 Goals: 69%
- +4.5 Goals: 15%
- -4.5 Goals: 85%
- Most Goals Scored in a Quarter: 76-90' (23%)

- Exact score 1-1: 8.6% of matches
- Most frequent score: 2-1 or 1-2 (17.5% of matches)
At first glance, it seems that away teams find it easy to score in the Europa League. With an average of 1.19 goals scored away from home last season, it might be worth betting on the “Away goal: +0.5” bet, provided the odds are high enough and the analysis supports it.
Secondly, as in most other major European competitions, the game tends to be forward-looking, with teams effective in front of their opponents' goal. This is evidenced by the very low statistic of the exact 0-0 scoreline, which was only observed in just over 4% of Europa League matches during the 2024-2025 season.
In the majority of cases, therefore, there were at least 3 goals scored in the match, and the exact score that was validated most often was 2-1 (or 1-2), which concerned more than 17% of matches in the previous financial year. If you're a fan of big-odds betting, you now know what to try.
