Alex Michelsen of the United States sets his sights on a semifinal stint on Friday as he faces Shintaro Mochizuki of Japan at the 2025 Almaty Open.
Michelsen is listed at +175 to cover -4.5 games against the 102nd-ranked Mochizuki.
Current Form:
After a five-match losing streak, Michelsen registered his first back-to-back wins in two months after downing Aleksandar Vukic 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday. Michelsen won 28 points behind the first ball and added 8 more behind his second serves to win all nine service games. He also broke Vukic’s serve three times after scoring 22 return points against the Aussie. Michelsen is 3-2 in indoor matches in 2025 and 39-15 in his career.
Mochizuki earned a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 ATP 250 Almaty Open after upsetting Luciano Darderi 6-3, 6-3. Mochizuki scored his second consecutive ATP 100 win by giving up only one service break and converting four breakpoint chances against the world’s No.26 Darderi. Mochizuki, who had avenged her earlier loss to the world’s No.58 Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4 in the first round, had gone 5-1 in his last 6 matches as he had also reached the semifinal of the Jinan Challenger.

Our Shintaro Mochizuki vs Alex Michelsen Prediction
Fearless Forecast: Shintaro Mochizuki goes toe-to-toe with Alex Michelsen in a losing effort 6-7, 6-7. Back the Japanese to cover +2.5 games (-120) as I believe he’s in amazing form to match up the American’s intensity and shot-making. Mochizuki has held 95 percent of his first serves and converted 6 of 8 breakpoints in two games. This is not an easy match for Michelsen, who has suffered four losses against players outside the ATP top-100 this year.
Our betting prediction for Alex Michelsen vs. Shintaro Mochizuki: Shintaro Mochizuki +2.5 Games.
