What has been a fantastic African Cup of Nations will conclude on Sunday. In the capital of Rabat, Senegal and Morocco meet in what should be an entertaining final.
It’s been a very pleasing tournament for the nation that last scooped this prestigious prize back in 2021, with the men from Senegal winning most of their matches with a serious air of authority. They had to dig deep during the semi-finals, but dig deep they did, with the main man Sadio Mane coming up with a vital goal as the game entered its final stages. Can the Lions of Teranga roar once more and defeat the tournament hosts?
Looking to tame their prey and secure a first African Cup of Nations win since 1976 are the Atlas Lions. The Moroccans, in front of a raucous home crowd, have also delivered some very sturdy performances over the last three weeks or so, dominating every single one of their opponents, giving very little away. After being pushed to penalties by the Nigerians last time out, do they have one more big performance in reserve?

Senegal - Morocco: Form Analysis
The Senegalese were never really tested during the group stages. Even as they tied with D.R. Congo, the impression that was given by the Lions of Teranga was that they had plenty left in reserve. They tapped into those reserves to accelerate beyond Sudan during the first knockout round, before again stepping on the gas to beat Mali in the quarter-finals. The Egyptians made Pape Thiaw’s men work harder than any other team had last time out, but still the 2021 AFCON winners had the final-third quality to progress.

It’s been a similar story for the Atlas Lions, who eased through the group stages, before making light work of beating Tanzania in the first knockout round, before easily seeing off the challenge of Cameroon in the quarter-finals. That win set up a semi-final against a Super Eagles team that was never going to be easy to beat, and although they were clearly the better team from start to finish, the Moroccans failed to score in 120 minutes, winning thanks to having a superior set of penalty takers.

Senegal & Morocco Squad Analysis
The Senegalese are expected to still be without the services of Ilay Camara and Assane Diao, both of whom have been unable to get fit enough to feature at this tournament. Pape Thiaw also has some fresh absentees to replace. Defensive leader Kalidou Koulibaly is suspended for the final, which absolutely weakens the Lions of Teranga, who will also be without versatile and energetic midfielder Habib Diarra.
Romain Saiss remains out, but the Atlas Lions have coped well in the veteran’s absence.
The Moroccans have no fresh injury concerns, which is a big plus for Walid Regragui, who will be able to field one of his strongest XI’s on Sunday. Romain Saiss remains out, but the Atlas Lions have coped well in the veteran’s absence. Azzedine Ounahi, who scored twice during the groups, has been out for the entirety of the knockouts, but again, the tournament hosts have more than dealt with his absence, such is the strength of their squad.

Our Senegal vs Morocco Prediction
Abde Ezzalzouli may not be of the same quality in terms of end-product as some like Brahim Diaz, but the Real Betis winger continues to be one of Morocco'a most dangerous offensive options, while he's a prolific shooter too. Thanks to his trickery, pace and ability to drift inside into shooting positions, Ezzalzouli fires off plenty of shots, shooting six times in Morocco's last two games.
The 24-year-old is yet to score at the tournament, but he's been shooting lots in the knockouts. He'll be a threat both in behind and cutting in if Senegal sit back, so do not be surprised if the LaLiga man registers a shot on target, which given his recent efforts, looks a little more likely than an early price of -130 suggests.
Our Senegal vs Morocco Pick: Abde Ezzalzouli 1+ Shots on Target.
