On Friday afternoon, in Toronto, two of those teams yet to grab any points will clash. There’s potentially still one knockout spot there for the taking in this group, but if either Senegal or Iraq want to take it, they’ll need to win this game and likely win it well.
Despite having what most people would describe as a strong squad, the Lions of Teranga have so far failed to roar at the World Cup, losing to both France and Norway. The same can be said for the Iraqis, who also enter this last game without a win or a tie to their name.
The Senegal players will likely have been disappointed to leave the field empty handed last time out, but all is not yet lost. Three points will be enough for some teams, and this is a huge opportunity for the Africans to pick up an all-important win. In the betting, ‘Senegal to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ appeals most.

Senegal - Iraq: Form Analysis
Could we criticize the way the Senegalese went about their work against the French during the first round of group games? Absolutely not. In the first half, they were hard to break down, plus they offered a threat on the counter, so much so that they should’ve been ahead at the break. In the end, they came off second best thanks to the individual quality of both Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe. Against Norway, they performed very well offensively, and were again a little unlucky.
Have they got a better chance of getting a positive result here? Only slightly.
The Iraqis, on the other hand, haven’t exactly been the victims of misfortune, and in truth, based on performance levels and overall quality, they’ve picked up the results that they’ve deserved. They were bettered in all areas by the Norwegians, who ran riot, while the French beat them by three goals to zero without needing to push too hard. Have they got a better chance of getting a positive result here? Only slightly.

There really was nothing wrong with the way that Pape Thiaw’s men performed against Norway, so we should not expect the Senegal boss to make many changes here. His starting XI from the last game should be more than strong enough to pick up all three points. Fresh from his brace against the Norwegians, Ismaila Sarr will once again play a leading role for the Lions of Teranga.

Will Iraq boss Graham Arnold change much ahead of this game? It doesn’t seem likely, after all, it’s not as if the Aussie has a great deal of squad depth to tap into, and it’s fair to say that he played what is pretty much his strongest team last time out. One change could see Luton striker Al Hamadi return to the starting XI. He had a couple of chances off the bench last time out, delivering a lively effort and is about as likely as anyone to score for the Lions of Mesopotamia.
