We’ve reached the business end of the African Cup of Nations, with only four teams remaining. On Wednesday, it’s time for the semi finals, the first of which sees Senegal and Egypt clash at Stade Ibn Batouta in the city of Tanger. The Senegalese delivered a commanding performance against Mali in the quarter finals, winning like a team that is determined to go all the way at this tournament, keeping a clean sheet and creating more than enough chances to score more than the one goal that they did.
There was no lack of determination shown by the Egyptians either, with the Pharaohs battling to the death against Ivory Coast, emerging victorious thanks ultimately to a second-half strike from the talismanic Mohamed Salah, who scored his 71st goal for Egypt and will now be looking for more as he bids to take his team to the final of this famous competition for the third time since 2017.

Senegal - Egypt: Form Analysis
The Lions of Teranga didn’t come under too much pressure against Mali last time out, though that was mainly due to the fact that their opponents played for more than half of the contest with ten men following Yves Bissouma’s red card late in the first period. This will be much harder for a team that was far from clinical in front of goal. During the groups we saw Pape Thiaw’s men score plenty, but can they now do that on the biggest stage of all?

After taking a more low-scoring route during the groups, the Egyptians have stepped on the gas and really shown their goal-scoring credentials during the knockouts, first scoring three goals against Benin, before banging in three against Ivory Coast last time out. Against a Senegal team that isn’t likely to sit back too much, the Pharaohs should fancy themselves to do plenty of damage.

Senegal & Egypt Squad Analysis
For Senegal, there will be no Ilay Camara, who despite going to the tournament as part of the squad has not featured due to injury. The same can be said for Assane Diao, who is yet to play a single minute in Morocco. The Lions of Teranga could freshen things up a little in offense, bringing in Nicolas Jackson, who is expected to replace Habib Diallo. No other changes are expected to be made by Pape Thiaw.

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has no fresh injury issues to contend with, leaving Mohamed Hamdi, who went off against Benin, as the only likely absentee. Following a strong performance, the Pharaohs are expected to set up much as they did against Ivory Coast, with Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah supporting each other in offense.

Our Senegal vs Egypt Prediction
Last time out against Ivory Coast, the Egyptians really did look deadly on the break, and I'm just not sure that the early market is paying enough attention to that simple fact. We've seen this Senegal team push forward lots in games at this tournament, and so far, they've not really been caught out, at least not massively, but if they leave the sort of space in behind that they did against Mali last time out, then the Pharaohs could easily make them pay.
Our Senegal vs Egypt Pick: Egypt to Score Over 1.5 Goals.
