Next up on Tuesday, after the action in Rabat, it's over to Tanger, where Senegal and Botswana will clash at Stade lbn Batouta. One of the more fancied teams, the Lions of Teranga will be hoping to get their campaign underway with a confidence-boosting win, and let's face it, they look more than likely to do just that. Under the stewardship of Pape Thiaw, the Senegalese players have delivered some explosive efforts in 2025, hammering in goals for fun. If they can continue to be so deadly in the final third, then they've got a strong chance of going deep into the tournament. Could they repeat their 2021 antics and regain the AFCON crown?
Much less likely to make a splash in Morocco are the Zebras, who've never previously won the African Cup of Nations, so to go up against a nation that has made two of the last three finals is tough, let's be honest. Morena Ramoreboli's men aren't exactly known for tearing it up on the continent, with this being just their second ever tournament. They qualified back in 2012 but failed to get out of the groups, losing three from three. Can they do better this time around?

Senegal - Botswana: Form Analysis
The Lions of Teranga warmed up by unleashing the loudest of roars against Kenya recently, scoring no less than eight goals to send themselves to Morocco in fine spirits. Thiaw's men have now won each of their last five matches against African opposition, and they really have been scoring for fun, notching multiple goals in each of those five. It's not as if they've given much away either, keeping four clean sheets during that spell. Their only recent loss came at the hands of South American giants Brazil, who defeated the Senegalese by two goals to zero back in November.

For Botswana there really is little positive form to talk about. Last time out, they came unstuck against the Tunisians, and sure, they only lost by a single goal, but all round, they were outplayed, delivering a performance that doesn't exactly point towards success in Morocco. The Zebras have now lost four of their last five games against African opponents, conceding multiple goals in four of those five. Good luck against Senegal, that's all I can say.

Senegal & Botswana Squad Analysis
Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has plenty of quality to choose from, especially in the final third. Somewhat unfortunately, impressive Serie A performer Assane Diao, who tore it up last season, has been struggling with a muscle issue and is unlikely to feature in the first game. The Lions of Teranga have no other immediate injury concerns, meaning that we should see the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Saido Mane, Ismaila Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye from the start.

Unlike Thiaw's men, who all compete in top European leagues, including the EPL, the Botswana boys aren't used to playing at the highest level. Fortunately, Morena Ramoreboli doesn't have an injuries to contend with, but even so, he cannot pick a team that can match the Senegalese for quality. Thabang Sesinyi is a standout performer for Botswana, as is Kabelo Seakanyeng, who currently plays his club football in Morocco and should thus be familiar with the conditions.

Our Senegal vs Botswana Prediction
This really is the perfect opportunity for the Lions of Teranga to start the tournament in explosive style. They're up against a Botswana team that cannot compete against the top African sides, that is very evident, so do not be surprised to see Pape Thiaw's men shift through the gears and score lots of goals here. After all, we are talking about a team that recently smashed in eight goals against similarly weak opposition.
Moreover, we've seen the Senegalese players score three or more in each of their last four games against African opponents.
Our Senegal vs Botswana Pick: Senegal to Score Over 2.5 Goals.
