Game 2 of the Mariners-Orioles series was delayed by rain, but the release of odds for Game 3, which is expected to feature a pitching duel between Evans for the Mariners and Sugano for the Orioles, has Seattle once again as the betting favorite.
In August, only the Brewers are a hotter team than the Mariners right now. The Mariners started as favorites in their last 10 games before Wednesday, winning nine. With one of the most complete starting rotations in MLB, a surging home-run offense featuring Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Arozarena, Naylor, and Suárez, and an excellent bullpen led by Mexican closer Andrés Muñoz, who has 28 saves, many experts have been bold enough to predict that the Mariners will take the division lead from the Astros, with whom they were tied at 67-53 as of Tuesday.
Kirby was in complete control of the Orioles' lineup at Camden Yards; the right-hander pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing only three hits, although it was a slow-hitting day for Seattle, who only allowed six hits in the win.
