San Jose Earthquakes host Los Angeles Galaxy, which has been a rather strange series as of late. The original California Derby has been dominated by the visitors, as the visiting side has claimed the spoils in five of the past six meetings. There’s a question as to whether that’s because of teams feeling comfortable in the other stadium or because of the recent strength of the Galaxy. Five of the past six wins have gone to Los Angeles, which was the MLS champion last season.
But this version of the Galaxy isn’t anywhere near what past versions have been. Los Angeles hasn’t been getting wins at all away from home, failing to win a single match outside of Carson this season. They’re rooted to the foot of the table, and they seem to be playing out the string over the rest of the campaign. With no relegation to worry about, Galaxy are only playing for pride, which is in short supply this year.
