Tomorrow afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers play the Seattle Seahawks to get their season started. The Seahawks made a legitimate push last year, finishing the year with a winning record and showing strength on the road. Their best strength was having error-free football on the road, on which, at times, they looked more focused and opportunistic.

At home, they have not been able to capitalize on crowd support and have, on occasion, played tight. Their offense has been converting from a veteran-based unit to a unit built around youth playmakers, and there have been growing pains, but glimmers of speed and creativity have been encouraging.

During pre-season action, they experimented more with tempo and got the ball in skill players' hands early. The defensive corps has been aggressive in coverage and shown the potential of getting off the field on third down, but inconsistent on defending the run.

San Francisco, meanwhile, had a rare down year. San Francisco began the season well, but was derailed by injuries, particularly to key starters on offense and the defensive line. The offense struggled to find its rhythm without a full complement of firepower, and the defense faltered at the end of the year, allowing far more points than they should have. It was a frustrating span for a team that was at the top of the NFC.
