Pegged at -126 on DraftKings, the Seattle Mariners target their fifth consecutive win over the San Diego Padres in Monday’s series opener at T-Mobile Park.
The Mariners have narrowed the gap that separates them from the Houston Astros to two games after taking 2 out of 3 games in the just-concluded series with the Athletics. Seattle, boasting a 3.95 ERA in the season, displayed exceptional pitching throughout the series, giving up only eight runs against an above-average offensive team like the Athletics. The Mariners then saved the best for last as MVP contender Cal Raleigh belted two home runs to power the Mariners to an 11-2 win in the series finale. Raleigh finished the game with four RBIs, while Julio Rodrigue and Victor Robles chipped in two RBIs each.
The Padres failed to complete a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers after dropping Game 3 2-8. After stifling the Dodgers to one run in Games 1 and 2, San Diego conceded four home runs in the series finale, two of which came from reigning World Series MVP Freddie Freeman. Moreover, the Mariners won by at least two runs in each of those eight wins, which only means that Seattle knows how to play and win against the Padres (most of the time). Seattle will start Bryce Miller, who hasn’t been dependable as of late (7.43 ERA in his last five starts), though he blanked the Padres through five innings in his first and only faceoff against the team on July 10, 2024. Seattle won the game 2-0.
The Padres are dispatching JP Sears, who squandered five earned runs and 10 hits over five innings in his first game since ending up in San Diego via trade with the Athletics.
