The LA Dodgers will go for the series sweep tonight when they take on the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. First Pitch for this NL West showdown is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. EST.
Los Angeles is six games into a ten-game homestand. After losing the first to the San Francisco Giants, they’ve won five in a row, including three over the Padres. Each game was somewhat competitive, with the Dodgers winning 6-3, 8-6, and 4-3. It is worth noting that the starting pitcher of record has yet to record a win. The Dodgers are scheduled to start Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The right-hander is 6-5 on the season with a 2.64 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. But after giving up ten runs across five starts in May, he’s struggled in June, giving up nine runs across three starts, with all nine runs coming at home.
San Diego will hope young Ryan Bergert can help get the team back on the right side of the scoreboard. With three starts and four relief appearances under his belt, he has a 2.33 ERA and a WHIP of .98. He did not give up a run in any of his relief stints, recorded a shutout in one start (vs. Milwaukee, June 8). He gave up two to the Mets (June 3) and three to the D-backs in his last start (June 14).

Several Padres players have faced him and they’ve done well (.417 with two home runs; 15 hits in 36 at-bats). If the lineup can score a few runs against him, Bergert could wrangle the Dodgers' lineup and keep them quiet. Now, if you want to bet cautiously, take the Padres run line at +1.5. But if you are good with taking the risk, the San Diego run line is a solid play.
