The Dodgers won the series and Game 3 of their series in Los Angeles against the Giants and increased their lead over San Francisco to one game, but the West Division, which began as a three-way race between the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants, has remained that way through more than 70 regular-season games, and on Monday they will begin a new series at Dodger Stadium.
The crisis of injured starting pitchers that has plagued the Dodgers since 2024 became even more pronounced in 2025, and Roberts has had to juggle and improvise to designate pitchers, but the team has responded extremely well to the difficulty. Not only do the Dodgers lead the MLB with 5.5 runs per game, but the combination of Vesia, Yates, and Scott coming out of the bullpen to get the last nine hits has been excellent, especially recently. The three of them stopped the Giants in a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Padres have somewhat lost pace with the Dodgers and Giants, but they remain close. They lost their last two series against the Dodgers and then the D-backs.
