When Sunday afternoon falls at Truist Park, the Braves and Padres will be closing out the series, splitting the first two games.
The story of this weekend's series has been the long-awaited return of the Braves' RF. After nearly a year without an MLB at-bat due to his injury and subsequent surgery, the Venezuelan returned to MLB action on Friday to a lineup and fans that need him more than ever. Like something out of a movie, Acuña hit a 400-foot homer on the first pitch he saw, causing euphoria in Atlanta. That happened in Friday's game, which the Braves lost with a rarely seen error by White running the bases, resulting in an out, a decision that marked the Braves' 1-2 loss.
With that the Padres snapped a 6-game losing streak, but on Saturday they lost again, scoring just one run, the Braves scored 7 with 13 hits and if that weren't enough, Acuña hit another HR.
For the Padres, Cease, with a 1-3 record and a 4.50 ERA, will be pitching to avoid losing another series. The Padres are coming off series losses to the Mariners and Blue Jays.
