Starting Monday, we have the Western Conference Finals that NBA fans have been eagerly anticipating, a matchup between the two teams with the best regular-season records in the West. The Spurs will face the Thunder. Game 1 will take place at the Paycom Center, and the pre-game odds favor Oklahoma City by 6.5 points.
The Thunder are the reigning NBA champions; the team coached by Mark Daigneault plays as if they want to establish a dynasty, and that was clear when they swept the Suns in four games and did the same to the Lakers in the following series. Oklahoma City played the series against the Lakers without Williams, and even so, with reigning MVP Gilgeous-Alexander and company, they averaged 125 points per 100 possessions. Heading into the conference finals, the Thunder are well-rested, while the Spurs prevailed in a hard-fought series against the Timberwolves.
San Antonio finally took the series against Minnesota four games to two. Despite Wembanyama's disappointing Game 1 and ejection in Game 4, the towering Frenchman was still the key player in the series. The Spurs superstar recorded three blocks in an outstanding defensive effort in the final game of the series, which his team won 139-109.
