The Western Conference semifinals continue; the Spurs and Timberwolves left San Antonio with one game apiece. Only the Spurs showed up for Game 2 and routed the Timberwolves, winning 133-95. Wembanyama recorded 19 points and 15 rebounds, and it was, in fact, Minnesota's largest margin of defeat in franchise playoff history.
"We got punked," said Timberwolves coach Chris Finch. The team's star, Anthony Edwards, went a step further in self-criticism. He went 5-for-13 shooting and said the Spurs "were the more desperate team." They wanted it."
Although the Spurs lost a key game, the first of the series, in which they were 11.5-point favorites in the pregame standings, their outstanding performance in the second game could set the tone for the rest of the series.
