AS Roma secured their spot in the Champions League last season thanks to their current streak of five straight Serie A wins. The Giallorossi, who defeated Bologna (0-2), Fiorentina (4-0), Parma (2-3), Lazio (2-0), and Hellas Verona (0-2) in quick succession at the end of last season, will compete in Europe’s most prestigious club competition after an absence dating back to 2019! With 19 points from 21 over the last seven matchdays of the 2025–2026 season, the Giallorossi have climbed to third place in Serie A, just three points behind second-place Napoli, their best finish since the 2017–2018 season. The 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund in their final preseason match on August 15 is a positive sign and should allow the capital club to get off to the best possible start in the new league season against Fiorentina.
The Viola, for their part, finished the previous season in 15th place, their worst finish since the 2018-2019 season. The Florence-based club battled to avoid relegation for much of the season and owe their survival to strong results down the stretch (just one loss in their final 11 Serie A matches). Since their loss to QPR (2-3) on July 25, Fiorentina have performed well in friendly matches against Watford (1-0), Real Madrid (2-2), and Celta Vigo (1-1). Moise Kean and his teammates even won their first official match of the new season against Benevento (4-1) in the Round of 32.
