On Wednesday evening, at least for US viewers, there's an interesting match due to take place at the ATP event in Brisbane, Australia, officially known as the Brisbane International. Aussie competitor Rinky Hijikata will be in action against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. In the early betting, there's not a great deal between the pair, though that could be an overreaction to the fact that Hijikata is playing on home soil.
It is the Aussie who has had more action of late, while he's definitely made a nice start to this tournament, defeating both Filip Misolic and Adam Walton. This match requires a bigger effort, though, especially after Mpetshi Perricard defeated world number 20 Tommy Paul during the first round. Frankly, if this match was a little further down the line, I think Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard would be considerably shorter to come out on top. In other words, I think the fact that we're very early on in the season means that the pair are considered to be more closely matched than they actually are by the early market.
Let's face it, Mpetshi Perricard played very well to beat Tommy Paul first time out in Brisbane, and with that win under his belt, I'm betting him to get the better of this lower-ranked opponent, just as he did when the pair met back in 2025.
